Rowan Hudson’s Passing Ships
Entry Requirements: Under 18s to be accompanied by an appropriate adult
Pianist and composer Rowan Hudson has been performing in London and Europe over the last seven years, collaborating with a wide variety of ensembles as well as leading his own trio. Here he brings us his Passing Ships, a new five- piece ensemble put together to perform his original compositions. With the emphasis on scene setting and atmosphere, the music is often introspective and quiet, with a minimalist approach to composition reminiscent of Philip Glass and Simon Jeffes. The pieces form portraits of places and narratives, with a theme of seas and oceans throughout. "Hudson delivers a project full of cool jazz harmonies, pictorial sounds tinted with Delius-esque passages, and humorous textures" - review of Rowan Hudson's debut album Passing Ships by ArtMuseLondon.com. The line-up for Passing Ships is Rowan Hudson, piano, Sophie Creaner, clarinet, Sophie English, cello, Jj Stillwell, double bass & Angus Bishop, drums/percussion. Rowan Hudson's Passing Ships will be supported by a set from James Osler's 'Pillow', a London based quintet performing the dark and cinematic compositions of James Osler, a young composer and Jazz musician, blending the sounds of Jazz, Contemporary Classical and Folk with textures of an unconventional string ensemble. Featuring Richard Jones, violin, JJ Stillwell, contrabass & James Osler, guitars/compositions, viola & cello. Tickets £12 in advance & £15 on the door
