Bull's Hit Comedy with Arthur Smith
Entry Requirements: Under 18s to be accompanied by an appropriate adult
The next Bull’s Hit Comedy Club is on Wednesday the 2nd of October – and CHARMIAN HUGHES is supporting ARTHUR SMITH.
Yep, that’s the right. The self-appointed but no less legitimate NIGHT MAYOR of BALHAM, he himself, will be heading and headlining just a few crucial miles west and, entertaining us in the Jazz Room of the Bulls Head in Barnes. (Basically he only does gigs now in south London suburbs that start with “Ba” so we should count ourselves colossally fortunate.)
BBC regular Arthur is well-known for his appearances on TV’s ‘Grumpy Old Men’, ‘QI’, ‘Have I Got News for You’ and, er… ‘The One Show’ PLUS! Radio 4’s ‘Loose Ends’, ‘Arthur Smith’s Balham Bash’, and as a regular host of Radio 4 Extra’s nightly ‘Comedy Club’ strand, and Radio 2’s ‘The Smith Lectures’. He is a ‘Spirit of the Fringe’ award-winning Edinburgh Festival stalwart and Olivier-nominated playwright – for ‘An Evening With Gary Lineker’. Renaissance South London Man or WOT?
And it’s also excellent and lovely to be welcoming Charmian Hughes to open for Arthur. A Buxton Comedy Award Nominee and 2018 Petworth Comedian of The Year Grand Finalist, Charmian's performed to audiences from regular circuit gigs around the UK to the Glastonbury Festival, and from HM Houses of Parliament to various HM Prisons (not to be confused – well, maybe this week); she’s just toured a grateful New Zealand for the third time and taken her latest show to the Edinburgh Festival, to great acclaim.
Quotage…
Arthur Smith “He makes it seem so easy. If push came to shove, Arthur Smith could probably confine himself to reading the minutes of Oxfordshire County Council’s transport sub-committee and still send his audience home happy.” THE TIMES
“Arthur Smith is a wonder of comedy charm and down-to-earthness.” Jo Brand
“There are Fringe legends and then there is Arthur Smith…” Bruce Dessau, BEYOND THE JOKE
Charmian Hughes “‘Lights up the stage.” THE SCOTSMAN “A mad auntie on acid.” DOMINION POST “A joy.” Funny Women “I love Charmian Hughes.” BRIDGET CHRISTIE
