Morrissey Mullen Legacy Band
Entry Requirements: Under 18s to be accompanied by an appropriate adult
The original Morrissey Mullen Band is widely considered the finest (not to mention the first!) of the British jazz-funk/fusion groups which flourished in London throughout the 70’s and 80’s. The collaboration was born in New York City in 1975 between Dick Morrissey (sax, flute) and Jim Mullen on guitar. They first got together whilst working in the US with another iconic funk outfit - The Average White Band - and spent the first 8 months in New York engaging some of the finest players of that time. On their return to the UK in 1976 the Morrissey Mullen Band was born and rapidly established itself with, amongst other things, a now legendary weekly sold-out London residency. The Morrissey Mullen band had various regular line-ups over its sixteen-year existence, featuring established British jazz musicians and young players, producing seven excellent albums. Dick Morrissey’s failing health saw the band dissolve in 1988.Their music lives on now through the Morrissey Mullen Legacy Band with Jim Mullen joined by amazing US saxophone virtuoso Dave Lewis taking on the Morrissey role and original Morrissey Mullen Band vocalist Noel McCalla (vocals). Mike Gorman (keyboards), Ernie McKone (bass), Ian Thomas (drums) complete the line-up here. Still vital in their performance and definitely one not to miss. 8.30pm Tickets £14 in advance & £16 on the door
