“My Romance” on the Lunch session (2.30pm): Jazz Helen continues into her third year of Sunday Lunchtime Jazz in this the 60th anniversary of the iconic Bull's Head Jazz Room with “My Romance”, a musical journey through the highs and lows of romance with some of the best loved standards of all time by composers including Brubeck, Dankworth, Monk, Jobim, Gershwin, Rodgers, Newley , Ellington, and Bacharach. Expect favourite swing numbers, romantic Bossa Nova's and classic ballads. Pianist Geoff Castle, (Nucleus, Paz), leads Helen's top-flight quartet along with Paul Morgan bass & Steve Taylor drums featuring special guest the much-acclaimed Tim Whitehead on sax. Noted jazz vocalist Helen Theophanous, aka Jazz Helen, is half Greek, half Irish. She studied music at Goldsmiths' and the Guildhall and with acclaimed American jazz singer Lea DeLaria and has performed in many leading London jazz venues including at Upstairs at Ronnie Scott's where she is a regular guest singer with saxophonist Renato D'Aiello with whom she made her well-received album, “Amici”. Helen's warm passionate vocals can swing one minute and captivate with a melting ballad the next.
