The Anita Wardell Quartet - “Don’t Explain”: The title is taken from the Billie Holiday and Arthur Herzog Jr ballad which has been recorded by so many instrumentalists and vocalists alike. Top Australian jazz singer Anita has written lyrics to the Dexter Gordon instrumental of the same name from his album, “Swinging Affair” recorded in August 1962 as well as new vocalese to re-harmonise some of the beautiful classic instrumental standards by such jazz luminaries as Charlie Parker, Cannonball Adderley, Jay Jay Johnson and Dexter Gordon. Recently returned from performing at the Perth International Jazz Festival, this special show forms part of Anita Wardell’s current UK and European tour and will be her last London date until summer 2019. The repertoire from tonight’s performance is due to be recorded for Anita’s forthcoming album due to be released next Autumn and she will be joined on stage by her swinging quartet; Robin Aspland on piano, Jeremy Brown on bass & Steve Brown on drums. 8.00pm Tickets £10 in advance & £12 on the door
