Gill Manly Presents “I Put A Spell On You” – The Nina Simone Story
Gill Manly
Entry Requirements: Under 18s to be accompanied by an appropriate adult
Gill Manly brings her critically acclaimed sell-out show back to the Bull’s Head Jazz Room for what must surely be one of the hottest tickets of the month. This very special tribute to one of the giants of the jazz vocal, features Manly along with the Simon Wallace Trio and showcases the talents of Paul Robinson, Nina Simone’s original drummer. The evening is a musically fascinating journey through the sometimes eclectic but always exhilarating range of songs recorded and sung by Nina Simone reflecting her long and chequered career. The show’s authenticity is due in large part to Paul Robinson, Nina Simone’s drummer for 18 years, highlighted by Gill Manly’s dramatic and hugely emotive delivery. Manly is a singer who flies high with no safety net, embracing all, whether it be jazz, blues, soul, pop or theatre and as such is eminently qualified to bring the best out of Nina Simone’s material. “One of our most versatile jazz-blues singers ….. the music itself was full of individual touches …..” Clive Davies, The Times. Gill and the trio steer a polished path through the massive hits, delivering highly-accomplished performances in honour of the legend. Expect a show to remember with many of the great songs from the huge catalogue of recordings Nina Simone released during her lifetime. If you like Nina, you will love Gill Manly!
