Art Themen, a previous winner in the tenor sax category of the British Jazz Awards toured the world fronting Stan Tracey’s quartet for 20 years and has been featured with virtually everyone on the UK jazz scene in addition to playing alongside American legends such as Philly Joe Jones, George Coleman, Bud Shank, Nat Adderley, Arturo Sandoval, Scott Hamilton. “His ideas are eclectic in an unpredictable style that has outlasted the Coltrane clones of his generation….” Jack Massarick – said London Evening Standard Jazz Critic. British award-winning trumpet player, composer, band leader and BBC New Generation Artist for 2015 to 2017 Laura Jurd is highly active throughout the UK scene, with a formidable reputation as one of the most creative young musicians to emerge in recent years. Having risen to critical acclaim on the release of her debut album ‘Landing Ground’ in 2012, Laura received the parliamentary jazz award for instrumentalist of the year in 2015. Spike Wells is one of the UK’s finest jazz drummers and former member of the Tubby Hayes Quartet and Humphrey Lyttleton ‘s band and has worked with many visiting soloists including Stan Getz, Roland Kirk, Johnny Griffin and James Moody. Noted bass player Simon Thorpe plays in many bands across the jazz spectrum, leading several of them including ImproPhonics, Jivin’ Miss Daisy as well as his own octet. Alex Hutton is an established pianist on the London scene having worked with many of the UK’s leading jazz figures. He started playing piano at the early age of 5 and completed a BA hons degree in American studies before winning a full scholarship at the Guildhall School of Music in the 90’s and has since released several CD’s to critical acclaim.
