Entry Requirements: Under 18s to be accompanied by an appropriate adult
Tom Millar's band features Tom Millar, piano, Misha Mullov-Abbado, bass, (Zirobop, Radio 3 New Generation Artist), Alex Munk, guitar (Flying Machines, Fabled) and Dave Storey, drums (Asterope, Tom Smith Septet). The Tom Millar quartet will be playing compositions from last year's debut album 'Unnatural Events' as well as new material. Last year they completed a 20-date tour of the UK, funded by Arts Council England. "Millar's writing is part of a lineage of polished modernism whose building blocks are to be found in the holy trinity of Herbie, Chick and Bill Evans, but whose additional masonry has pleasing echoes of their scions, namely Pat Metheny and Brian Blade. At its highpoint the performance reaches a poetic, pastoral grace….." Kevin Le Gendre - Jazzwise. Way Out West is a unique collective of jazz musicians. Diverse improvisation, performance, arranging, composition, all come to the forefront in full force within regular gigs, as each collective member presents their work with stars from today’s jazz scene.
Line Up
The Tom Millar Quartet
Way Out West presents ‘Tom Millar/Fini Bearman vocal project’ with Tom Millar on piano, star vocalist Fini Bearman, Gareth Lockrane on multiple flutes, Matt Ridley on bass and George Hart on drums.
Pianist Tom Millar has formed an all-star group for this gig, to perform some of his favourite songs. Recent duo work with sensational vocalist Fini Bearman, who has released two albums under her own name, has inspired this Bull's Head performance where he augments the duo with the powerhouse rhythm section of Matt Ridley and George Hart plus the phenomenal playing of Gareth Lockrane on multiple flutes (probably not all at the same time).
Expect to hear well-known standards performed in fresh new arrangements, as well as less frequently-played gems from the Great American Songbook, contemporary songs, beautiful Bossa Novas and originals by members of the band.
