Entry Requirements: Under 18s to be accompanied by an appropriate adult
Tim Penn piano and vocals, Chris Proctor, guitar, and Ayo Odia, saxophone, are the prime suspects and front-line of one of London’s top New Orleans R&B bands, Tim Penn and The Second Line. The band has quickly established its credentials at some of the top venues around town, and are now regular performers at Ronnie Scott’s Bar, in Soho. Tim and Chris appear regularly as a duo and have developed an uncanny sixth sense of where each other is going with the music, bringing a sense of freedom and joy to the performance that never fails to entrance an audience. Ayo Odia, who hails from Lagos, Nigeria, and has, in the past, played with Fela and Seun Kuti, and Osibisa will be bringing his own unique palette of wailing R&B, Afro-Beat and High-Life to the musical gumbo. Drawing on a repertoire that ranges from early 1920s stride and barrelhouse through the classic New Orleans greats of Fats Domino, Professor Longhair, Alain Toussaint, Dr John and James Booker, the trio also broaden out into the driving R&B of Ray Charles and the distinctive songs of Tom Waits and Tim’s own tunes, taking you on a magical journey through 20th century American jazz and blues.
