Elise & Ross Lorraine Quintet - “They’re Playing Our Songs”:
Elise & Ross Lorraine Quintet
Entry Requirements: Under 18s to be accompanied by an appropriate adult
Featuring Elise Lorraine, vocals, Ross Lorraine, piano & vocals, Paul Southern, bass, Paul Stead, guitar & Dan Allsopp, drums, with a program of songs either written by Ross or chosen by Elise - from Joni Mitchell to Esperanza Spalding. Elise who recently returned to London after 25 years living and performing in Amsterdam, began her career specializing in contemporary music, where the warmth and clarity of her voice inspired many composers to write for her, including her brother Ross! Her vocal performance takes many forms, but is always about telling a story, whether in a modern opera, free vocal improvisation, her one-woman show “A Melody to Ecstasy”, or a simple jazz standard. As a pianist and singer Ross has performed at some of the country’s leading jazz venues and jazz festivals whilst impending recordings of his songs are to be made by several singers including Emilia Martensson, and Linley Weir, accompanied by pianist Nikki Iles. His musical, Ex, was performed at the Soho Theatre, with works broadcast on Radio 3, BBC World Service, and on European radio. Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music) said of the album Day Dawns co-written with Melissa James “They don’t write ‘em like that anymore - except they do……!”
