Aclaimed bassist Dave Jones leads his Nonet featuring some of the UK’s best jazz musicians including Henry Lowther, Mark Armstrong, Tony Woods, Pete Hurt, Chris Biscoe, John Turville, Eric Ford, The evening will explore Dave’s arrangements of standards, classic jazz repertoire and his original compositions, evoking the energy and atmosphere of big band swing alongside Latin jazz and contemporary European jazz textures. “Dave’s writing is sophisticated and nuanced, just when you think you know where he’s going, there is a change of texture or tempo and you find yourself in an unexpected place and …. it’s beautiful!! … “ London Jazz News’. Playing and exploring the Nonet arrangements of great American writers such as Bob Hammer, Marty Paich and Frank Griffith provided the inspiration for the band. Dave has played with some of the finest jazz musicians in the UK such as Pete Long, Jacqui Dankworth, Frank Griffith and Theo Travis and visiting American artists such as Howard Levy and drummers Steve Gadd and Keith Carlock. He is joined by two of the finest jazz trumpet players in the UK in Mark Armstrong, Musical Director of The National Youth Jazz Orchestra and trumpet legend Henry Lowther. The saxophones are drawn from the Way Out West collective with Pete Hurt, Tony Woods and Chris Biscoe band leaders in their own right. The rhythm section is completed by John Turville on piano and Eric Ford, two of the finest and most versatile musicians on the scene. The voice of emerging vocalist Madeleine Jones is featured on a number of the arrangements both as soloist and as a wonderful textured blended within the ensemble.
