JazzHelen continues her successful Sunday Lunchtime Series with a celebration of the genius and wit of Cole Porter, songwriter and lyricist, flavoured with some exciting ingredients from other great songwriter/lyricists such as Noel Coward, and present-day award-winning pianist and cabaret artist Ty Jeffries. Half Irish and half Greek, London-based singer Helen Theophanous’s warm, passionate vocals can swing one minute and captivate with a gentle ballad the next. With a background in concert and stage performance, she has performed in many leading London jazz venues in recent years having studied music at Goldsmiths and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and with award-winning Warner Brothers jazz recording artist Lea DeLaria. “Classy …..stunning….. drama…..presence” says Claire Martin OBE. Helen will be presenting Porter favourites such as “Night and Day,” “I Concentrate On You”, “From This Moment On”, “Every Time We Say Goodbye” and many more. In presenting some of the best jazz repertoire from the Great American and British Songbooks Helen always has some of London's finest jazz musicians on her Sunday Sessions. Jazz Cocktails will feature the highly acclaimed Geoff Castle on piano (Nucleus, Paz), Paul Morgan on bass, (BBC Radio Orchestra, Don Lusher Big Band) & Steve Taylor on drums, (Frater & Taylor, The Steve Taylor Big Band) together with special guest Tim Whitehead on saxophone. “The finest tenor player in Britain today….. ” say Jazz Review.
