Way Out West Collective
Entry Requirements: Under 18s to be accompanied by an appropriate adult
Way Out West All Stars Present ‘British Standard Time’ with Tim Whitehead, Pete Hurt and Chris Biscoe on saxes, Dave Jones on bass and Gary Willcox on drums. Before rock ‘ roll was king Britain had a great tradition of popular song through folk music, the music hall and theatre. Some of this music has found its way into the jazz tradition but much of it is neglected. With British Standard, Time Way Out West bring their personal approach to music by Gilbert and Sullivan, Noel Coward, Ray Noble, Ivor Novello, Vivien Ellis, Newley/Bricusse, Manning Sherwin, Holst and Britten, and a couple of folk songs. Tonight’s concert features three of the finest jazz saxophone players in the UK in Tim Whitehead, Chris Biscoe and Pete Hurt with the driving rhythm section of Gary Wilcox and Dave Jones. Way Out West is a unique collective of jazz musicians representing some of the finest in the UK. Diverse improvisation, performance, arranging, composition, all come to the forefront in full force within their regular gigs, as collective members leading their own projects or as in tonight’s ‘All Stars’ special concert the collective members are heard coming together alongside special guests.
