7 Star Arts Presents
The Samuel Eagles Quartet
Entry Requirements: Under 18s to be accompanied by an appropriate adult
Featuring some of the hottest ‘Young Turks’ of the British jazz scene today; Samuel Eagles, alto saxophone, Ralph Wyld, vibraphone, Daniel Casimir, double Bass & Chris Draper, drums. The future of contemporary jazz and improvisation is as much due to an onward passing of the baton by today’s prominent influencers as it is the ongoing legacy of the historic greats such as Charlie Parker, Ornette Coleman and John Coltrane, so when renowned saxophonist Mornington Lockett saw the early glimmers of talent in London-based Samuel Eagles, it kindled something special. A formative grounding in classical piano along with a fascination for the recordings of Kenny Garrett were pivotal in bringing Eagles to the alto saxophone where the musical pathways of his career resulted in his being awarded a BMus (Hons) in Jazz Performance from the Trinity College Of Music where he was tutored by Grammy Award-winning saxophonist and former Jazz Messenger, Jean Toussaint. Eagles is increasingly garnering national interest in the worlds of jazz, funk and world music, having worked with the likes of Ant Law, Derek Nash, Chris Draper, Tim Thornton, Andy Davis, Mansur Brown and Dave Ingamells, performing at UK festivals and major London venues. Now surrounding himself with some of British jazz’s most exciting present-day torch bearers, this is a great chance to see Eagles and his quartet in the intimate surrounds of the legendary Bull’s Head. “His assurance and inventiveness are impressive at any tempo…” John Fordham – The Guardian
