Award-winning sax and clarinet player Mark Crooks presents an evening dedicated to the music of brilliant composer and arranger Johnny Mandel. From Oscar-winning movie scores to world famous songs, from orchestrations for Sinatra to TV themes and soundtracks, Johnny Mandel is a real musicians musician. Expect familiar melodies such as “Emily, The Shadow of Your Smile”, “Theme from MASH (Suicide is Painless)” and “Close Enough For Love”, alongside lesser known gems like “Groover Wailin’”, “Quietly There” and “Keester Parade”. Featuring Mark Crooks, clarinet & tenor sax, Gabriel Latchin, piano, Simon Thorpe, bass & Matt Home, drums.

Mark Crooks Quartet
Mark studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and then at the Guildhall School of Music after winning the Young Jazz Player of the Year Competition in 1991. Since leaving college Mark has worked in a wide variety of musical settings including classical work, films, shows and sessions on saxophones and clarinet. Much in demand as both leader and sideman, he has appeared at jazz clubs and festivals throughout the UK, Europe, and at the Lincoln Center in New York.
Mark’s quintet appear at jazz venues throughout the UK and have released three highly-acclaimed albums to date, featuring his tenor saxophone and clarinet alongside the guitarist Colin Oxley and the first-call rhythm section of John Pearce, Dave Chamberlain and Steve Brown.
Mark is also a member of the award-winning Back To Basie Orchestra, the Skelton-Skinner All-Stars, the Gordon Campbell Big Band and the celebrated John Wilson Orchestra, with whom he was a featured soloist in the TV special “A Swingin’ Christmas “, first broadcast on Christmas Day in 2010.
