*The Geoff Castle/Art Themen Quartet remember the noted saxophonist Stan Robinson *

This is a unique tribute gig for the great saxophonist Stan Robinson who died in April, just before what would have been his 81st birthday. He was a member of the Tubby Hayes Big Band, the Ronnie Ross sextet and the Maynard Ferguson orchestra (for two years including a US tour). This gig features the great tenor saxophonist, Art Themen, with Stan’s favourite rhythm section: Geoff Castle on piano, Tim Dawes on double bass and Spike Wells on drums. Stan’s quartet played regularly at Ronnie Scott’s where Stan had been a featured performer from the club’s very first weekend in 1959. This quartet recorded an album of Stan’s original compositions copies of which will available on the night. Stan also performed and toured with the Castle Frank and Stan trio with vocalist and percussionist Frank Holder, who will be featured in the second set. Copies of the trio’s album will also be available on the night.
